Santoni, part of the Lonati group, has developed fully electronic circular knitting machines for seamless applications. The SM8 series are single-jersey machines, while the SM9 series are double-knit. Sapona Manufacturing of Cedar Falls, N. C. has developed specialist new yarns for seamless fabrics, including Celanna, a combination of cellulose acetate air-entangled with various other fibers. Mayer Industries (US subsidiary of Mayer and Cie) introduce the FK-18J Fiberknit machine at ITMA 99. This circular sliver-knitting machine produces high quality plush fabric from short-staple fibers, and was designed to take advantage of 25-to35-mm fibers.
