Automotive fabrics have to have high abrasion, good colourfastness, temperature tolerance and comfort characteristics. In most cases polyester yarns are used, but during the high temperature dyeing process large amounts of oligomers are released which contaminate the dye liquor and affect the down stream production processes as well as increasing potential pollutant levels. To reduce disturbances caused by oligomers a mix of PET and PBT is used which have lower oligomer contents in the raw materials. Tests of texturing, oligomer levels, dyeing fastness all show favourable results for PET/PBT mixture when compared with pure PET, and dyeing intensity is achieved at lower temperatures.
