Kurdish Weavings: Diversity on Display, 5 October 2001-28 February 2002, is an exhibition in Evanston, Illinois, UISA, at the Minasian Rug Company. This broadly based Kurdish carpet exhibition includes a diverse assortment of rugs and textiles. Interest in Kurdish weavings has grown recently, and there are many with an unsophisticated honesty - even the more commercial urban weavings, by Sehna and Bijar, are highly regarded and distinctive, though it is questioned how many were actually woven by Kurds. 88 pieces, mostly from private collections, are on show, including an impressive Yuruk group. A north-west Persian sumakh horse cover is described. Three dozar-size Bijars represent different trends in Bijar production and are explored further. Seven large flatweaves are discussed, four from eastern Anatolia. Six early Sauj Bulagh rugs show various designs from this part of Kurdistan. 30 bags and bag faces constitute a significant group, and there is even a mystery rug.
