The Spring/Summer 2003 fashion fabrics and trends were on view at Premiere Vision 2002, Paris, in February 2002. Design changes instituted by Jean-Michel Wilmotte are summarized and visitor numbers listed by country. The new organization for Schiffli embroidery machines notes that the giant Swiss producers (Foster-Rohner, Bishoff) have now developed subsidiaries in Asia, and are competing with companies formed under Asian management. The big textile garments companies now subcontract in Asia, South America, North Africa and Eastern Europe. Three ways in which Premiere Vision covers more markets at the same time are detailed. Problems are briefly discussed and the principal fashion areas listed. These include a general conceptual forum, the Colour-Range area, the ‘Latest News’ area, the ‘Bests’ and the various fabrics, clothing and accessories categories. The future development of the show is reviewed with the need for good ideas for designers and good prices for buyers to be represented at the same time.
