A successful response to a difficult challenge is the theme of this article. The challenge was to use high-speed warp knitting machines to knit staple fibre fabric. A joint venture development project by Karl Mayer Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbH and Sitip S.p.A. over five years has resulted in the use of special, modified and optimized machines for the necessary processes. Warps are produced on Karl Mayer direct warpers then processed on modified warp knitting machines. Both processing cycles and machine technology have been optimized during the joint development activity. Six machines have now been operational and producing special varieties of warp knit fabrics. One product that has found success on the market is a double-sided velour fabric, now the subject of a patent application.
