GAP is an acronym for the Southeastern Anatiolian Project, and irrigation and energy program designed to promote agriculture, education, health, tourism, and infrastructure in an arid region of Turkey. A significant proportion of GAP resources support the establishment of a cotton industry. Within the next ten years, GAP will increase the cotton yield in Turkey to ten times its present level. This, in turn, will stimulate the growth and modernization of the cotton spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing industries in Turkey.
