New Zealand wool exporters recently signed an agreement with the government of Nepal to minimize wool damage and speed up to flow of exports. According to Nick Nicholson, executive manager of the New Zealand Council of Wool Exporters, the agreement provides a means to ease the entry of wool into Nepal without having to undergo time consuming mandatory border inspection and testing. Under the agreement, an exporter will attach a test certificate to each wool consignment. The certificates, issued by laboratories in New Zealand, contain test specifications on the color, average fiber diameter, barbe length, percent vegetable matter, moisture, and residual grease of the consignment. The Nepalese government plans to conduct random spot checks to verify the certificates. Nepal is the second largest wool market for New Zealand.
