Growth in Indian cotton production continues to outpace domestic demand and will make India a major supplier of cotton in international markets. To achieve a respectable share of the international cottton trade, India must modernize its ginning and pressing factories. The industry must consider the replacement of single roller gins with double roller gins. Pneumatic handling systems with precleaners should be intalled for seed cotton transportation to the ginning machine. These modernization programs will improve the quality of Indian cotton and increase the price offered for these cottons in international markets.
