High-performance material is typically used as bullet-resisting material. Although high-
performance resists bullet penetration, it does not guarantee against non-penetrating
damage. Design of a structure for reducing the non-penetrating damage would be useful.
An elastic cushion structure has been used extensively for impact resistance. In this study,
chloroprene rubber material was utilized to decay and transmit energy after being hit with a
bullet. The cushion effect was examined based on the deformation of oil clay during a
shooting test. The form of the elastic cushion structure and sequence of laminates were
changed to determine the influence of these parameters on the cushion effect of a Kevlar
laminated compound fabric. The reduction of non-penetrating damage and increase in
safety use were achieved by designing a structure that reduced bullet impact.
